Nintendo Loses Patent Lawsuit: Owes 30.2 Million

The very platform that Nintendo marketed their 3DS portable device on, which was the concept of "3D without the glasses," was stolen from another company, Tomita Technologies. In July 2011, Tomita Tech filed a lawsuit against Nintendo stating that Nintendo had infringed upon their patent which related to "diplaying stereoscopic images on-screen for viewing with the naked eye." That technology, which was the basis of the 3DS hardware, was patented by Tomita in 2008, and now Nintendo owes them more than $30 Million in damages. If it wasn't enough that the WiiU wasn't selling as well as they had hoped, we can imagine how this lawsuit will cut into their profits.
